Nem akarok hosszan írni

A Washington Postban (Soaring IED attacks in Afghanistan stymie U.S. counteroffensive) van egy cikk az IED számának növekedéséről. Nem is magyarázom tovább itt van az ábra hozzá.

-All told, the U.S. military recorded 8,159 IED incidents in Afghanistan in 2009, compared with 3,867 in 2008 and 2,677 the year before.

Ezt a szám dolgot Roy Gutman teljesen már megközelítésbe helyezi:
Some Taliban still fight as they did a decade ago, in flip-flops and baggy pants, but the hard-core "Taliban cavalry" is equipped with North Face jackets, good boots, warm clothing, and swift motorbikes bought in Pakistan.
The Taliban made 8,000 improvised explosive devices last year, an astonishing rate of almost 22 a day. "An enemy that can generate 8,000 IEDs and bring 8,000 IEDs to bear and have a major effect, we ought to hire the J-4, the logistician," said a top general with the U.S.-led International Security Assistance Force.
Gutman mér 2001 előtt is követte a tálibokat (mint újságíró, úgy értem), mostani cikkének (U.S. experts see signs of Taliban in transition) az a lényege, hogy ez a Talibán, már nem az a Talibán. Még egy cikk az amerikaiktól. Ezt is Gutman írta, de Wardakból. Csak azért említem, mert a cikk egyik fele arról szól, hogy amerikai különleges erők miként fogtak el több tálib vezetőt (mellékszál: most valaki mondhatná, hogy nem mindig mennek olyan rosszul a dolgok). És akkor eszembe jutott, hogy ebben akár a magyarok is benne lehettek, mármint a Különlegs Műveleti Csoport, mert ők ebben a tartományban működnek valamelyik bázison, és akikkel egy meg-nem jelent cikk szerint amerikai parancsnokuk is elégedett volt. Úgy hiszem az év végéig hosszabbította meg a korámány őket.
